8 degrees!

Will's back measured at 8 degrees today!!! He has NEVER measured in the single digits. 3 months ago he was at 15 degrees. His highest measurement was 33 degrees. I was beyond thrilled, to say the least...

Now, the "fine print"
The doc looked at his back for a while and said that it is still noticeable. He also said we "never quit worrying" about it. There are 2 types of infantile scoliosis. Progressing and resolving. Right now, his appears to be resolving. But....we've been on the downside of this roller coaster before when he was down to 12 then up to 23 again. They really worry about the spinal curve during growth spurts. He said we would need to continue going down every 3 months...then, if we have 2 or 3 good measurements where he is holding the curve then we could stretch it to 6 months. He did not tell me how long that would last but I'm assuming for years. I can't worry about tomorrow or 3 months or 6 months from now, really. There is nothing I can do to change it. For now, I'll enjoy the UP part of the roller coaster ride and pray that he continues to do well.

Raleigh had to move his name again....

The K teacher has a system in which if you move your name off the bear, it means you don't earn your smiley.

Ral has now moved his bear 3 times....
and its his 9th day of school.

The first 2 times were for hitting/kicking. I was not amused about this and the consequence was a spanking and restriction.
Today he moved his bear b/c he was laying down during group time and would not follow directions to sit up. When I asked him why, he told me he was too tired.

While Im not happy that he didn't follow directions, I'm glad that it wasn't for beating someone up.
We were discussing what he did on the way home. Raleigh starts to go into a long story ...
"Im going to sneak in late at night and be very quiet. Then I'm going to unlock the door and turn the handle. I'll go over and take my scissors and cut out the bear."

I finally realize what he is talking about and ask him why. He replies, "So I don't have to move my name off the bear anymore."

I guess that IS one way to ensure that he won't move his name off the bear. Just get rid of the stinkin' bear altogether!

Raleigh and Will

Raleigh got in trouble at school today. He had to move his bear again...this time for hitting. He had to move his bear on Friday too...for kicking. So, he's been in trouble for 2 days now.
And he's only been in school for 7.

Great.

I was telling Mike about how I was taking solace in the office telling the secretaries about Raleigh's behavior and they were both telling me that their kids had been in trouble already as well.

I told Mike that it made me feel good to talk to someone who was in my shoes.

Will then says to me, "Where you shoes, mom?"

LOL...I guess he doesn't understand figures of speech yet!

School

Raleigh started Kindergarten last week!!!!!! On the first day, I really thought he was going to cry....then a few minutes into me leaving him, he looked at me and said, "Mom, don't forget your hug and kiss!"

He did well for a few days....
Then Friday happened. He was the first kid to "move his bear" because he was kicking a student and didn't stop when asked. As it turns out, before he left for the day he was running around and not listening to the assistant. When the other Kindergarten teacher told him to sit down, he looked at her and yelled, "NO".

Friday night was not much fun around here. An evening of restriction in the bedroom and a "butt busting" was all he got.

Today after school I asked him if he moved his bear.
He didn't.

I told him I was happy. He said, "I don't even have to get a spanking??"

I explained to him that he only gets that when he is a bad boy at school....bless his heart.

I do love having him at school with me. I love having all the hugs and kisses everytime I see him.
I know they won't last forever. He WON'T be doing this in a few years, Im sure. So, I try to be extra patient and enjoy it twice as much for now.

Post hospital life

Will seems to have fully recovered. Yesterday Lois told me he ate and drank more than she had ever seen. They ate supper up there and he had 2 bowls of spaghetti. So, I figured he was good for the night. After he came home he had 2 cereal bars, fruit snacks, and a big bowl of grapes.
Its a little after 6am right now. He's alreay had a hot dog and fruit snacks.
I guess he's making up for not eating for almost a solid week. Im just glad everything is staying down and he is back to his 2 year old dictator self.
Yesterday when he came home he grabbed his balloon that Ms. Mary brought him in the hospital. He said something about a birthday. I told him that he got that when he was in the hospital when he was sick.

He looked at me and said, "Throw up in a bowl?"
Yeah Will, you threw up in a bowl. We had a vomit bowl we followed him around the house with for 4 days last week.
Then he said, "Cry mama...mama."
Yes Will...you cried for mama...do you know why?
He looks at me with the blank stare that Will is so good for.
Raleigh is more than willing to pipe up and tell him, "They put a needle in your foot, Will!"

Im glad this is just a memory now!

Will is home!

Will was able to come home Friday night. Thursday was a little rough when his IV in his arm came out and they had to put it in his foot. As it turns out, it worked a lot better in his foot than in his arm. Because he was hydrated this time, it only took one stick instead of 5. My poor baby just screamed MAMA MAMA MAMA..I DONE...I DONE...I DONE....Then he started in with I WANT A BANDAID. He gave the bandaid cry again when they tested his blood Friday morning and when the IV came out on Friday afternoon.
There were some funny moments in the hospital as well. Whenever he talked to Ral on the phone he told him, "I go to McDonalds. I eat french fries. I eat hashbrowns." Umm..no Will, you are in the hospital. So, he told him he was in the hospital. When he came home he was telling people, "I went to Disneyworld!"
He is home now...which eases my mind.
I was worried about his fluid intake once we got home and dreading a trip back to the doctor if he didn't do well.
All of those fears are gone. He is eating everything, drinking lots, being a 2 year old dictator, and fighting with his brother.
Will is ok. Thank you Lord. Thanks to all of you who prayed as well.
