Head brain

Whenever Raleigh is talking about remembering something, he says its in his "head brain."

If I ask him what he did last night, he'll put his hands on his head and say, "I don't remember, mom. Its not in my head brain!"

~~Last night Ral was rubbing his belly and announced, "Jesus is in my tummy."

"Why is he in your tummy, Ral?"

He answers, "So he can get to my heart."

Will is almost a year old

So..I looked back at what Ral was doing at a year.

Yeah, I know. You aren't suppose to compare one child to another and thus far my kids are pretty much total opposites.

But..I looked and compared anyway.

Ral was saying a few words. He knew where his nose was. And when you asked him to get his ball or another toy he could go get it.

Soo...I tested these things with Will.

He has no clue what his toys are called or any of his body parts.
The only words he says are "Da Da DA" all they time with the occasional "hey" thrown in there. The rest of his babble is not in English.
He speaks a lot...only in a language we are not trained in.

I got kind of upset about this.

Then I thought about it....

I don't think we've ever told Will about his nose.
No wonder he doesn't know where its at!

Anytime he has a toy, Ral rips it out of his hands...
So no wonder he doesn't know what a ball is!

So...we are working on "Where's your nose???"

Maybe he'll get it down pat in the next week and a half.

I must add that even though he has no clue where his nose is, he remains a little cuddle bug whose smiles light up the whole room. Will is a real sweetheart.

Be a little quieter, mom

The other night Ral was calling Elmo on his Elmo phone. I was in the kitchen cooking, not saying a word, when he calls out, "Mom, I need to call Elmo. Can you be little quieter?"

Ummmm...ok

Then on the way to church yesterday Will fell asleep. Normally when Will sleeps Ral thinks its time to pat him, caress him, stroke him, etc. and tell me loudly what a cute baby Will is...or how darlin' Will is...or that Will is a cute baby..etc. etc. until he wakes up.

Mike and I had been talking for a while when Raleigh says to us..."You need be quiet. Baby Will is sleeping."

I'm glad he's so concerned about his little brother!

Will is waving!

Will can now wave to you! Usually it works best after he claps to tell him to wave. He is starting to do it on his own now.

What a cute boy!

Night peeing

Ral is potty trained during the day. He does great!

Nighttime and naps are a different story.

He has gotten in the habit of asking daddy for a sippy cup of water at bedtime. He usually drinks all of it.

This morning he woke up and told me that he peed in his diaper and all over his bed. I assured him it was ok and that we would wash it and it would be fine.

Later, when I was stripping his bed, I noticed that he had peed all over his pillow as well.

I asked him how he got pee pee all over his pillow.

"With my weenie, mom."

Duh!!! I guess I shouldnt ask a question like that to a 3 year old!

Yes, they cast in Erie, PA

We have requested Will's MRI and X Rays be sent to Erie. I spoke to the Shriner's hospital there last week. We are hoping to hear this week if he has been accepted for treatment. If so, we will be going to Erie, PA every 2 months to have new casts put on.
Pray for us!

SH-- and Water

This morning Ral started telling his daddy about "Shit and Water."

Yes...shit and water.

We asked him many times what he really meant because for sure he really didnt just say shit and water...did he??

We suggested "Did you mean Chicks and water?" or "Did you say cheese and water?"

Every time he would just look at us, smile, and say, "No! Shit and water!"

After thinking we would die trying to stifle our laughs, Mike threatened to spank him if he kept saying it. Finally, he got the ultimatium that if he said it again, he would get a spanking.

What does my smart little boy do???

He starts singing about "shit and water."

A trip to the movie rental store

Yesterday I took Ral to Pick a Flick because he took a nap for three days in a row at his Me's house. He was quite excited at the prospect of going to the movie store.

Once he got it figured out that we would NOT be staying there to see a movie, I think he was ok.

When I showed him the movies he could get he immediately went for Toy Story 1 and 2. We own both of those movies.

In VHS and DVD.

I told him no because we already had those. Reluctantly he put them down and went straight for the movie Cars.

Yes, we have that too.

So, after much searching up and down the aisles of Pick a Flick telling everyone he needed to find his movie, we ended up with 2 Spongebob movies. Both of them are episodes that we've seen at least a million times.
He also got 2 Pooh Bear movies.

This from the little boy who has never watched Pooh on TV because he wasn't interested.

What fun!

I didnt know a dead bird!

Gato the cat caught a bird yesterday.
This morning the dead bird was on the doorstep as a token of his love for us.

Ral was quite perplexed by it and kept saying, "I didn't know a dead bird, mom! I didnt know a dead bird!"

This was big stuff here at the Combs house today.

He had to get daddy out there quick to tell him, "I didnt know a dead bird!"

We heard from the doctor....

The doc in Winston sent Will's x-rays to a doc in Boston for him to review. The doc in Boston feels like Will's scoliosis has gotten worse. His recommendation is that if the spine does not begin to move in the right direction in 3 months, we should pursue our options...a.k.a. casting. We believe the only place they cast is in Salt Lake City. Mike and I are still talking to the doctors to see if we should go ahead and begin treatment for Will now.

While I know that that what we are going through could be so much worse....its bad enough for us right now. We want only what's best for Will..even if it means going to Salt Lake and going through casting.

Please pray for us!

Will's scoliosis update

We took Will back to Winston last week for x-rays of his spine.

The bad news is that his spine has stayed the same. It hasn't started getting better yet.
The good news is that it did not get any worse...which is a blessing.

Our doc is going to talk to a scoliosis guru in Boston about whether Will should be a candidate for casting, even though the spine curvature did not increase the last 3 months.

The bad news about that......
They only do casting at a Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake City!!

The good news....
My mom in law has some Shriner friends in Ohio who said that they would be interested in sponsoring Will should that happen.

So...now we wait to hear from the doctor about casting.
If casting is not in the plan for now, we go back to Winston in 3 months for x-rays again.

Raleighisms

~When Ral tells me he loves me, he often says, "I love you pieces to heart."

~The other day we found a dead mouse in the yard. Ral kept saying, "I didn't know a mouse, mom. I didnt know a dead mouse. I didnt know that, mom."

~ Being a winner. Its very important to Ral right now. He has to be a winner in everything. We've discovered that he even likes to be a winner if we start picking up his toys first!

~At least a few times a day when Ral looks at Will he says, "Oh mama, Will so cute!!" Or his latest one is..."Will so darlin!"
Of course you must remember that he can't say his "S" sound, so it sounds like, "Oh mama, Will Ho Cute!"

I love ya

This is what Ral says all the time now.
"I love ya mom"
The other night when I came in to give him medicine when he was coughing so bad, he kept saying, "I love ya mom. You the best. You rock, mom!!"

Where he gets this?? I have no clue.

He tells me he loves me all the time now and gives me hugs and kisses, which I love!

The other day Mike told Raleigh that he loved him.

Ral's response???
"But I like mom!"

La la la la la

Ral thinks he can sing the sun up. I have no idea where he got this idea...perhaps from Little Einsteins.
Anytime the sun is going down, he tells me that he can sing it up and starts to sing, "La la la la la...." This is ALWAYS the song to sing the sun up.

At Christmastime we were at my church in Wilmington and the kids were getting to choose their favorite song. Mrs. Beal asked Raleigh, "Do you have a favorite song you sing at your church?"
Ral replies, "La la la la..."
Mrs. Beal says, "Oh, Deck the Halls...ok we'll sing that!"

La la la la la......

Fa la la la la......

Maybe I need to teach Ral "Deck the Halls" to sing the sun up.
